Kick Start a Career in IT with the New CompTIA Strata Course from Home Learning College

(PRWEB) September 13, 2009

Home Learning College, the UK’s largest provider of distance learning courses, is pleased to be one of the first providers of the new CompTIA Strata course in the UK, offering an entry-level foundation qualification for those interested in a career in ICT.

CompTIA Strata educates students as to the basic operation and management of PC’s. It has two certifications, covering the fundamentals of both PC functionality (such as setting up a workstation, installing software and virus control) and those of technology, with a focus on compatibility and maintenance.

The course is recognised by the Sector Skills Council e-skills and fulfil ITQ Level 1, meaning that existing and future employers can be reassured by the professional credibility of the qualification. Students who complete the qualification and who have been inspired by what they have learnt will be in a strong position to consider tackling subsequent CompTIA courses – such as CompTIA A and CompTIA Network – gaining a complete suite of qualifications recognised by companies such as Microsoft, Cisco and 3Com.

Matthew Poyiadgi, of CompTIA comments that, “We have had a long and highly successful relationship with Home Learning College and are delighted that they are amongst the first of our partners to offer this new course. We know that they will offer their usual level of exemplary service and support to anyone hoping to achieve the qualification.

“Home Learning College is rightly seen as a leader in the field of distance learning, and its professional, personal and creative approach means we know our courses are in safe hands.”

No previous qualification or experience of IT is required to start the CompTIA Strata course and students are supplied with all course materials prior to starting their studies. The freedom and flexibility offered by Home Learning College also means that students can learn at their own pace around existing professional or personal commitments. They are supported throughout by a personal Tutor, available at any time via phone or email, detailed course materials and the other 65,000 members of the Home Learning College Virtual learning Community.

Dave Snow, Home Learning College’s Director of Studies commented “CompTIA Strata is designed for those at the bottom of the proficiency pyramid to get them interested in a career in IT, providing them with the vital skills they will need to compete in today’s competitive jobs market. As it is ‘vendor neutral’ – meaning that it does not focus on specific applications or products – they will receive an independent introduction to ICT and get a clear picture of how to progress.

“The flexibility that being able to study for the qualification at home at their own pace fits the modular structure of CompTIA Strata perfectly.”

Search Engine College Launches “Certification Pathways”

Search Engine College Launches “Certification Pathways”

NSW, Australia (PRWEB) November 23, 2006

Online training institution Search Engine College (http://www.searchenginecollege.com) has today launched Certification Pathways (http://www.searchenginecollege.com/search-engine-college-certification-pathways.htm), a series of bundled courses that prepare persons who want to jump-start their career path in the fast-paced search engine industry.

The courses follow 3 distinct tracks of study:

Certified Search Engine Optimizer, consisting of 3 courses:

SEO101

SEO201

Any other SEC certification course from http://www.searchenginecollege.com/search-engine-marketing-courses.htm (e.g. Web Site Copywriting, PPC101, Web Site Usability, Link Building, Keyword Research)

Certified Pay Per Click Marketer, consisting of 3 courses:

PPC101

PPC201

KWR101

Certified Search Engine Marketer, consisting of 5 courses:

SEO101

SEO201

PPC101

PPC201

Any other SEC certification course from http://www.searchenginecollege.com/search-engine-marketing-courses.htm (e.g. Web Site Copywriting, Web Site Usability, Link Building, Keyword Research)

The certification courses provide students with an extremely high standard of proficiency and have been designed specifically to prepare students for immediate employment in the search industry. These combined levels of certification also enable students to study the material for each course simultaneously and save money on purchasing each of the courses separately.

Kalena Jordan, Director of Studies for Search Engine College, claims that the Certification Pathways are a first for the search industry.

“Most of our tutors have worked in an agency or corporate environment, so we understand what drives employers and what they expect from SEO/SEM employees. Completion of one of our Certification Pathways indicates to a potential employer a graduate’s proficiency in the very latest search engine algorithms, guidelines and methodologies taught within our curriculum. I’m not aware of any other institution that has developed courses so specifically aimed at gaining employment for graduates within the search industry”, she says.

Any employer hiring a graduate of Search Engine College can be reassured that their new employee knows how to set up a spam-free SEO campaign or knows how to create and successfully manage a Google AdWords or Yahoo Sponsored Search account. They will be able to hit the ground running without requiring weeks of on-the-job training. This makes an SEC graduate a more logical and cost-effective hire.

Although the lesson material is studied at the student’s own pace, all courses in the Certification Pathways are tutor-supervised with a tutor assigned to guide students through the material and review their assignments. Students who want to qualify for industry-recognized SEC Certification in these subjects must upload all assignments for grading, complete all online quizzes and the final exam and make a 70% overall pass. Students who already have some knowledge of SEO or PPC can test out of the 101 courses by taking the final exam in those subjects. Provided they pass the exam, they will receive certification in the Basic course and can move straight into the Advanced course of the same subject. Students have access to the course materials and lesson updates for 12 months after registration so they can move through the lessons at their own pace.

Every student successfully completing a Certification Pathway series at SEC will receive a dedicated Search Engine College Seal of Certification (described at http://www.searchenginecollege.com/search-engine-college-certification.htm) in their chosen pathway for display on their web site. They will also receive a hard-copy Certificate of Training for each subject studied, that can be shown to potential employers or displayed in their resume.

As well as receiving advice and assistance from Search Engine College to gain employment within the search industry, SEC graduates also have access to the Student Lounge at http://www.searchenginecollege.com/hub/news.php, which hosts a wide range of industry resources. These include an employment forum where vacancies in the search industry are posted regularly and an industry discounts area where students can purchase software and subscriptions at a discounted rate to retail customers.

Search Engine College courses are aimed at a global market and a wide target audience, including marketing executives responsible for promoting their company’s web site via search engines, small business owners wanting to learn how to market their own web sites via search engines and persons wanting to learn how to promote web sites in search engines in preparation for starting their own search engine optimization business or applying for a job in the lucrative search engine marketing industry.

The College is currently accepting student registrations for their first intake for the Certification Pathways series commencing later this month.

Learn What Every College Graduate Needs to Know After Landing the Job

Learn What Every College Graduate Needs to Know After Landing the Job

(PRWEB) September 13, 2004

You know you’re out of college when 8:00AM is no longer early and if you have a job, your salary is considerably less than your tuition. The term “quarterlife crisis” was recently coined to describe the puzzling period after finding a career position, when recent graduates are disappointed by the slow pace of success. They Don’t Teach Corporate in College, (Career Press, September 2004), by Alexandra Levit, is the rare manual that explains how to climb the corporate ladder once you’re “in.”

Despite the urge to postpone her career for graduate school, Levit found that the key to survival lay not in her textbooks, but rather in her own goals of self-improvement. They Don’t Teach Corporate in College outlines the means to this end in a voice that speaks to any junior level employee. They Don’t Teach Corporate in College is geared to assist the reader in developing personal skills to ensure success in:

•    Hunting for jobs using unorthodox but proven techniques

•    Making a memorable first impression

•    Navigating the company social scene

•    Practicing cringe-free networking

•    Combating negativity

•    Creating relationships and coping with difficult personalities

•    Finding a new position, and gracefully exiting from the old

In high school, there were guidance counselors to point you in the right direction, but after college it’s simply sink or swim. They Don’t Teach Corporate in College is for swimmers who are looking for answers to the questions that were never addressed in college.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

At 28 years old, Alexandra Levit has spent all of her post-college career in Corporate America and is the founder of marketing communications consultancy Inspiration @Work. She most recently worked in marketing communications for Computer Associates, the fourth largest software company in the world. Levit was previously an account manager at Edelman Public Relations Worldwide, where she developed award-winning PR campaigns for Fortune 500 clients, including Microsoft, Pfizer, Philip Morris, Procter & Gamble, and Unilever. She graduated from Northwestern University in 1998.

Students at Gibbs College in Vienna Benefit from Weekend Classes

Students at Gibbs College in Vienna Benefit from Weekend Classes

Vienna, VA (PRWEB) March 28, 2006 —

In an effort to meet the needs of the increasing number of students seeking better ways to balance busy schedules with academic goals, Gibbs College in Vienna has added weekend college classes to its course schedules, making flexibility an even greater part of the Gibbs College curriculum. The weekend classes have been added in the school’s most popular specialized degree programs, Criminal Justice and Medical Assisting so students can work toward their Associate of Applied Science degree in these fields while attending to the work, family and personal responsibilities that are already part of lives.

“We are very pleased to offer students this opportunity. As students continue to demand more classes and more ways to fulfill career goals, Gibbs will respond by supporting them along the way and meeting their needs whenever possible,” said Stephen Goddard, president of Gibbs College in Vienna. “We’re here to help students obtain the education and training they need at the pace they want. Students were interested in weekend classes because of job obligations during the week, and rather than allow work or personal life to be an inhibitor to students who want to pursue their career goals, we are opening up our doors to them instead.”

With the addition of the weekend course schedule, students enrolled in specialized degree programs at the college can take weekend classes to fashion a workable schedule in addition to taking classes during the week, while others can take advantage of a strictly after-hours schedule. There are still plenty of opportunities to be involved in school activities and labs for students who enroll in weekend classes, and often, because weekend classes are free of the distractions of the workweek, they can be even more conducive to academic success. The weekend classes maintain the small sizes, professional faculty and student-focused class time characteristic of all classes at Gibbs College in Vienna.

Specialized Associate and Bachelor level programs offered at Gibbs College in Vienna can give students the knowledge they need to pursue their career interests quickly, efficiently, and thoroughly. Because degrees are attainable in a short period of time, some in as few as 18 months, students don’t have to feel they are lagging behind because they are not immersed in the traditional school course schedule. Graduating students should be ready to start their new job search and get involved with the industries they are training for sooner, and the weekend schedule for the Criminal Justice and Medical Assisting programs will allow students the same opportunity students.

Gibbs College in Vienna is an accredited Member, ACICS.

Inflation and Cost of Living Forces Professionals Back to College

Inflation and Cost of Living Forces Professionals Back to College

Calgary, AB (PRWEB) August 30, 2006

A recent feature article on WorldWideLearn.com explores how professionals going back to college to pursue master’s degrees are combating rising inflation and cost of living (http://www.worldwidelearn.com/education-advisor/indepth/is-your-college-degree-competitive-in-today-tough-job-market.php). The Consumer Price Index has increased by 4.3 percent since June 2005, and inflation has been at almost 4 percent for the first half of 2006. The extra $ 16,000 in salary (on average) that an advanced degree can yield for one earner in a household can make a huge difference in the family budget.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that people 25 and older with college degrees increased by 20 million (almost a 50 percent jump) between 1992 and 2004. With the job market now saturated with workers with bachelor’s degrees, an advanced degree may now be necessary to distinguish an employee from their peers and help their promotion to management positions.

According to Steven Jones, Managing Producer of WorldWideLearn.com, “Many people are returning to or staying in school to pursue advanced degrees for financial and job security.” He also stresses the importance of thoroughly researching a master’s degree program, and he notes that, “returning students are choosing online and part-time master’s degree programs to accommodate work schedules and family commitments.”

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, an estimated 40% of today’s college students are 25 years or older, suggesting that many people are returning to colleges nationwide to earn an advanced degree or get a higher education. WorldWideLearn.com addresses the needs of adults considering a master’s degree by offering extensive resources to locate and research accredited campuses and programs.

WorldWideLearn.com is the world’s premier directory of education, featuring informative resources, more than 2,500 online courses, over 1,600 online degree programs, 200 online universities, and 2,300 campus-based career college programs. WorldWideLearn.com receives thousands of visitors every day and has been featured on MSMoney.com.

Academic Financial Solutions Evaluates New Law to Overhaul College Student Loans

Academic Financial Solutions Evaluates New Law to Overhaul College Student Loans

Tampa, FL (PRWEB) October 9, 2007

Academic Financial Solutions, a leading student loan debt consolidation company based in Tampa, Florida, evaluates the repercussions of the new College Cost Reduction and Access Act that President Bush signed into law on September 27.

Michael Babb, President of Academic Financial Solutions believes the new law will alter the entire landscape of the college student loan industry. Federal subsidies to private student loan companies will likely be reduced while the number of federal grants increases. The new legislation states that student loan interest rates will gradually be reduced to 3.4 percent on federally subsidized student loans for low-income students over a five-year period.

The Act makes college student loan payments more manageable for borrowers by guaranteeing that they will not have to pay more than 15 percent of their discretionary income in loan repayments. Also, borrowers that experience economic hardship may have their loans forgiven after 25 years.

It is estimated that the new college student loan legislation will eliminate 80 percent of student loan companies’ subsidies over the next five years. This would result in significant losses in student loan benefits for students, thus making it more expensive for students who have already graduated.

“The reality of the situation is that a vast majority of students will no longer be offered interest rate reductions for on-time payments and other attractive incentives by the lenders,” stated Michael Babb. “Even the larger lending institutions will be affected because it virtually wipes out their profit margins. You can’t operate a lender-based program without a fair and realistic profit margin.”

“The important thing to remember is what is in the student and borrower’s best interests,” Babb continued. “With college costs increasing almost 40% over the past five years, educational funding resources need to increase as well. Hopefully, this student loan legislation will help keep pace with this demand.”

From its inception, Academic Financial Solutions established a reputation of serving the best interests of students and borrowers and has saved FFELP borrowers millions of dollars by reducing their college student loan payments through consolidation. Centennial College of Excellence Helps Employees Advance Careers

Centennial College of Excellence Helps Employees Advance Careers

Vienna, VA (Vocus) August 20, 2009

In an effort to help its employees achieve their career goals and to meet the company’s demand for talent, Centennial Contractors Enterprises established a curriculum of technical and managerial training courses known as Centennial College of Excellence.

Centennial, a national leader in Job Order Contracting (JOC), sought to take its training and development programs to the next level. It formed the College to provide its 425 employees at more than 40 offices across the country access to company-wide conferences, regional instructor-led seminars and online courses.

It began by examining what worked and what didn’t in the current program and then hiring an instructional designer to assist in the development of targeted courses and distribution methods.

“Employees stay with a company because it values them and gives them opportunities to grow and develop,” explains David Sturdevant, Director of Training at Centennial. “The challenge for us was to design curriculums that address the needs of employees at small offices spread out across the country.”

Rick Wilson, Vice President of Human Resources at Centennial, states that “Centennial has evolved its corporate culture to be more employee-centric. Our strong commitment to development and training has allowed us to retain our people and promote internally. The College provides a unique method for supporting that effort.”

Centennial leveraged teams of internal subject matter experts to develop seven instructor-led technical and managerial courses. The courses were designed with sound adult learning principles and cover internal processes related to JOC and construction management knowledge. Upon completion of course development, 20 experienced employees from across the country attended an intense faculty symposium focused on teaching methods, the best ways employees learn and course content and materials. All 20 employees delivered actual training in front of their peers and were then awarded the designation of “Professor” for the College.

Additionally, the College includes 84 self-paced courses accessed through the learning management system on the company’s Intranet. These courses cover topics like general business skills such as communication, writing, negotiation, management, team building, time management and more. Employees and their managers meet each year to identify the courses that best meet their developmental goals.

In the first year, employees completed 355 online training courses and held at least one instructor-led seminar in each region, totaling more than 1,500 hours of training. As a result of efforts like the Centennial College of Excellence and other employee initiatives, employee retention is at an all-time high.

“Even in tough times we still need to invest in our employees,” adds Sturdevant. “That’s what makes Centennial a great place to build a career!”
