What is Flunixin Injectable (Banamine Injection)?

FlunixiJect is recommended for the alleviation of inflammation and pain associated with musculoskeletal disorders in the horse, dogs and camels.

Why use it?
-Recommended for the alleviation of visceral pain associated with colic in the horse.
-Treatment may be given by intravenous or intramuscular injection and repeated for up to 5 days.

How it works?
Studies show onset activity is within 2 hours. Peak response occurs between 12 and 16 hours and duration of activity is 24-36 hours.

Administration

Flunixin may be given orally as a paste or as granules in feed. It can also be used intramuscularly or intravenously, although because it is very irritating to tissue, the IV route is preferred, and in cattle it is the labeled route of administration.

Dosages are usually reduced for ponies, who are more at-risk for NSAID side effects, as well as horses with decreased liver or kidney function (such as older horses).

The recommended dose for musculoskeletal disorders is 0.5 mg per pound (1 mL/100 lbs) of body weight once daily.

The recommended dose for the alleviation of pain associated with equine colic is 0.5 mg per pound of body weight. Intravenous administration is recommended for prompt relief.

Trade names

In the USA the trade names are Banamine, Flunixamine, Citation, Equileve, and Meflosyl Solution. In the UK the trade names are Flunixin (Licensed by Norbrook), Finadyne and Cronyxin. In South Africa and Australia a common trade name is Finadyne. In India, its " Megludyne" by Virbac(veterinary), commonly used brand.

For use as a supplemental source of Vitamins & Amino Acids in horses, cattle, sheep, swine camels, alpacas, and pigeons.
